Bayern Munich skipper Philipp Lahm has praised the newly appointed Bayern manager Pep Guardiola.
In an interview given to the official website of the German Club, Lahm said, “Pep Guardiola has been the best coach of the last four or five years. All over the club, and in the dressing room too, you sense huge anticipation.”
“It’s a top transfer, a best-in-class solution. Respect for what our bosses have done. You’re never guaranteed to bring in a really successful coach like this.”
“It shows the club’s good image, the quality in the team, and what our current coach has achieved. He has shaped a team who are contenders in all competitions”, he added.
The former Barcelona boss will join as the head coach at the Allianz Arena once their current manager Jupp Heynckes retires this summer.
Guardiola joined Barcelona in 2008 and in those four years he guided them to 13 trophy wins, thus becoming the most successful manager in the Club’s history.
The German giants beat Manchester City and Chelsea for the signing of the 42 year old and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Bayern’s chief executive, said: “We are delighted that we have managed to get Pep Guardiola whom several big clubs wanted and contacted. He is one of the most successful trainers in the world and we are sure that not only Bayern Munich but the whole of German football will benefit from what he brings.”
Heynckes has been incredibly successful at the top of Bayern since his return in 2011. He guided them to the Champions League final in May where they lost to Chelsea on penalties and are currently sitting on top of the Bundesliga, nine points ahead of Bayern Leverkusen.
Bayern’s chairman Uli Hoeness added: “Only someone of the calibre of Pep Guardiola was an adequate replacement for Jupp Heynckes.”
Meanwhile, Bavarian Javi Martinez was also all praises for the newly appointed coach and is looking forward to working with the fellow Spanish International.
“I know lots about him from what my Spain team-mates have told me. They all say very good and positive things,” he said.
“His appointment is good news for me, for the whole team, and also for the Bundesliga.”
