The FIFA FIFPro World XI was announced and what may come as a surprise that all eleven players are from La Liga. The top two La Liga teams Barcelona and Real Madrid have five players each in this XI, Radamel Falcao of Atletico Madrid being the only Non-Barca or Madrid player. With five of La Liga teams made it to the semis of European competitions. All this has made the people in football world to ponder over the question – Is La Liga the best football league in the world?
If we look into La Liga, we see that it lacks competition and the final competition is between Barcelona and Real Madrid, with Valencia, Malaga, Sevilla, Atletico Madrid and Atletico Bilbao tasting occasional success. Even in the Champions League all four of La Liga teams made it to the knockouts compared to two of popular English Premier League (EPL) and for the first time the defending champion crashed out of group stage. Studded with stars, Barcelona and Real Madrid are at a different level when it comes to game, even the teams stand nowhere these two powerhouses, provide strong opposition to best teams of other leagues and often beat them fair and square.
Even Cristiano Ronaldo, who was the best player in English Premier League when he made a move to La Liga, took time to prove his worth in La Liga. The present Cristiano Ronaldo is a far better player as compared to the one who used to play for Manchester United, the sheer technique and quality in La Liga being the reason for his development. Some of the top players in various leagues are Spanish who made the move because they were not the best in their league when playing for La Liga teams and it explains the quality of La Liga.
The other top leagues like EPL, Bundesliga, Serie A and many others have strong team and players who can defeat any team on their day. EPL has giants like Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool, Bundesliga has Bayern Munich, Dortmund, Serie A has Juventus, AC Milan, and Inter Milan. These all are really good teams and provide competition to Barcelona to Real Madrid, but the quality of game at La Liga is far better than any other league. La Liga is a two-horse race, lacks competition for the title but it is competitive in its own entity.
EPL may be most popular and most competitive when it comes to title race, Serie A may have the legendary teams, Bundesliga may have consistent performers and La Liga may have quality and technique. So, is La Liga the best league in the world? Maybe or maybe not, it all depends on what you expect from the beautiful game of football.
