Barclays Premier League leaders maintained its seven point lead on New Year day with 4-0 victory over Wigan at DW Stadium thanks to Javier Hernandez and Robin van Persie.
The opening goal came in 35th minute by Hernandez from a close range which was a rebound from a shot by Patrice Evra. Van Persie made it double in the break with a splendid strike with his right foot from the centre of the box to bottom right corner assisted by Hernandez. Hernandez scored his second in 63rd minute and Van Persie matched him in 88th minute, which moves him to 64 goals in 76 league games since January 2011. League leaders Manchester United played 21 games with 17 wins, 1 draw and 3 lost with 52 points.
Manchester City still battling to defend their crown with a 3-0 win against Stoke City at the Etihad Stadium with amazing goals from Pablo Zabaleta, Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero.
Zabaleta opened the scoring late in the first half in the 43rd minute. Dzeko tapped in for a second before the hour following a set piece situation. Aguero added the third from a penalty spot in the 74th minute.
Tottenham’s push for Champions League football after they beat Reading with a 3-1 score, which is their seventh win in their last nine fixtures. Aaron Lenon put one of his best performance with Gareth Bale on suspension took control of the game with the goal from Dawson in the tenth minute followed by Adebayor and Dempsey in the second half.
West Ham kick-started their league campaign with a win of 2-1 at Upton Park. They went ahead through a Mark Noble penalty at the 3rd minute. Joey O’Brien got a second goal on 26th minute, which gave a morale-boosting victory for their FA cup tie against Man United.
Fulham claimed a valuable victory over West Brom with 2-1 score. The first goal was scored by Dimitar Berbatov in the 39th minute. Alexander Kacaniklic’s goal gave a shock victory in the 58th minute.
The match between Swansea city and Aston villa was draw with 2-2 score and Arsenal and Southampton was a draw with 1-1 score.
