Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to offer Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole a deal at Old Trafford once they are dumped by Chelsea, reports the British tabloid Daily Star.
Both these English internationals will be out of contract by the end of June and so far only Ashley Cole has been offered a one year deal. Chelsea’s Interim manager Rafael Benitez has though refused to give too much information regarding this but has hinted that they may both leave the Blues this summer.
According to the recent rumours in the now-open transfer window, Alex Ferguson is keen on bringing in these Stamford rejects and is putting together an amazing double deal to tempt the duo to Manchester. He believes that the pair can make a deep impact both on and off the pitch for the Red Devils.
Reports also suggest that Ferguson had tried to rope in Lampard and Cole in this month’s transfer window but Chelsea is not willing to do business with any Premier League Clubs. So, he is all set to wait until the summer for a free transfer and is prepared to offer one year rolling contracts to the duo which will allow them to continue playing at the highest level.
Chelsea legend Ray Wilkins has also urged United to sign Lampard saying that he would be perfect for the Premier League leaders as the 34 year old has already “scored more goals this year than Carrick, Cleverley and Scholes combined.”
While the left-back Cole who came to Chelsea six years ago from Arsenal has also attracted the interest of Real Madrid and the French Club Paris Saint-Germain besides United, Lampard who joined Chelsea in 2001 and has been their third highest goal scorer in more than 500 appearances has been targeted by Chinese club Guizhou Renhe and some teams of Major League Soccer.
This pair was also a part of the Champions League winning Chelsea side that lifted the trophy last year after beating defending champions Barcelona and then defeating Bayern Munich in the finals.
