Dashing Indian Cricketer Yuvraj Singh turns 31 on this magical day today 12-12-12. The World Cup hero truly is a great Inspiration for millions as we all know how he fought hard in the field as well as his real life too. Last 12 months were probably the worst part of his life, as he was diagnosed with cancer which started just as a tumor in the lungs but then turned out to be malignant. He underwent 3 tough cycles of chemotherapy in the Cancer Research Institute in Boston.
With successful treatment and strong support from family, team mates, and fans he fought cancer and returned to India in April 2012. He made his comeback to the national side for the two T20I’s against New Zealand in September 2012. While the first match was washed out due to rain, he had a decent comeback in the 2nd match scoring 34 off 26 balls but ending up in the losing side just by 1 run. The Selectors named him in the 15-member Squad for WorldT20 took place in Sri Lanka, many claimed it as an emotional call, though he couldn’t match up the expectations with his bat, he ended up being the highest wicket taker for India in the tournament picking up 8 wickets.
His long time dream of playing for India in the longer version of the game again became true after he was named in the squad against England. His double century against Central Zone in the Duleep Trophy (208 in 241 balls) gained him a place for the England series. Recently he was dropped from the side for the fourth and final test against England, after scoring just 125 runs from five innings. Previously, the BCCI has nominated him for the Arjuna Award for his man of the series performance in the 2011 world cup. Yuvraj Singh has launched ‘YouWeCan’ an initiative by the Yuvraj Singh Foundation (YSF), aims at spreading awareness and facilitates early detection of cancer.
He says, “I’ve always believed that no matter how hard the battle, I can win it. I have fought against Cancer, and your support and love has given me the power to win it.”
As he steps into this new year, The Sports Mirror wish him a very Happy Birthday and hope this upcoming year turns out be highly successful for him and as well as for Team India!
