History has it that World’s greatest soccer exports came from Brazil. With Spaniards conquering the world the saying is just a history now. Spain have conquered the World with the class of football they display which in turn has earned them two consecutive European Championships and the World Cup. The World Champions have three consecutive international titles and find themselves on top of the FIFA charts having overthrown some of the giants along the way. The Spaniards have carved out a great reputation, and are often know as the pass masters as they possess a natural ability to control the game. The Premier League has been hugely influenced by the arrival of the Spaniards. The pace, skills, the ability to pass the ball and setting up goals and adaptability makes them really special. Addition of Spaniards hasn’t been new to the Premier League, with the likes of Pepe Renia, Torres, Xabi Alonso having already shown us what they are capable of, it was upto the new set of players to maintain the reputation.
The newcomers
Michu & Chico Flores:
One of the most dynamic prospect to the Premier League has been Miguel Perez Cuesta, also known as “Michu” .He has made a great mark on the Premier League after joining Swansea City from Rayo Vallecano. The Spanish midfielder has been on top of the scoring charts this season. The Spaniard has played just behind the striker and has also been generous in setting up a few goals rather than scoring it himself. Michu’s teammate Chico Flores is another Spaniard who has been an inclusion to Swansea, however he hasn’t been as impressive as Michu but to some extent he has shown he can play.
Santi Cazorla:
The Swansea City stars haven’t been the only latest Spanish signings to cause a stir in the league. In what has been a sluggish start to the season for Arsenal, the addition Santi Cazorla has been one of the few bright lights. The Spanish midfielder has helped raise the touch-possession football Arsenal like to play and has moved the ball forward pretty well. He has played in a much free role and has been the leading goal scorer for Arsenal. Carzorla has been involved in almost every key move that arsenal have created and has managed to push them into top 5.
Esteban Granero:
There are other stars that have joined the league, though their impact has not been as immediate. Esteban Granero left Real Madrid to join QPR on a four-year loan as the bottom of the table team continues to collect scraps of top tier teams to build a promising team and to be one of the more exciting teams in the league.
David Silva & Javi Garcia:
The left footed Silva has been a constant threat to premier league defences with his passes and his pace. He ended City’s trophy drought and has been a great addition to the side. Having won the league last season the winger has shown people what he is capable of.
The latest singing has been that of Javi Garcia, of Benfica, to Manchester City for almost 35 million dollars. Though he hasn’t been a regular starter he has managed to chip in and score coming off the bench. He has accompanied David Silva, who was a key part of the championship winning team last season.
Juan Mata:
He has been the pick of Chelsea players. He has been mean and menacing down the left wing, and has already managed to win the Champions League. The Spaniard has gone on to become a key member of the Chelsea squad and his ability to score from set pieces makes him special.
The veterans
Along with the new additions, Spanish veterans are looking to revive their careers after slumps past season.
Fernando Torres:
Torres had a horrible season with Chelsea and had struggled to find the net. The Spaniard failed to make the same impact that he made as a striker in Liverpool. But Torres has managed to come off the slump and has returned back to form. He has been more consistent in front of the goal.
Mikel Arteta:
Arteta has adapted to the holding midfielder position pretty well and has managed to the help out his defence apart from his defence splitting passes. Arsenal looked more vulnerable at the back, but Arteta has pulled his back out of trouble more often than not by playing just in front of them. Of course, it has not all been glitter and gold for Arteta the veteran has had a tough start to the season.
Pepe Reina:
Reina hasn’t been impressive so far, with age on his side it looks his carrier at Liverpool may be over. The team has also had one of the more flexible defenses in the league and looks more vulnerable.
As the league had received criticism for losing its international splendor as the superstars rush to La Liga, it is interesting that the new influx of international stars is coming precisely from that country and adding a little bit of spice to the Premier League, just not from its usual source.
