Chelsea’s management has reportedly told midfielder Frank Lampard to seek a new club in the January transfer window.
Chelsea’s current manager Rafa Benitez called on the 34 year old veteran for the weekend’s match against Aston Villa, and Lampard played well to score in his 500th appearance in a Blues kit which turned out to be 8-0 drubbing of Villa. Reportedly Lampard was told before the match about the decision of letting him go in January.
Although his current contract expires at the end of the season, Chelsea legend Lampard has made no secret of his desire to see out his playing career at Stamford Bridge.
Frank Lampard has had an illustrious career with the Blues playing for more than a decade with the highlight coming in the last season unlikely triumph in Champions League. Lampard has won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, two Capital One Cups and the Champions League with Chelsea.
Reportedly this also comes from the acutely impatient Chelsea owner Roman Abramovic who had asked the management to extend the contract of players over 30 by only a year. This move also led to the departure of another Chelsea legend Didier Drogba.
Speculations have also begun about the future of Ashley Cole. He has also crossed 30 and is rumored to move to PSG, although the move should take place at the end of his contract towards the end of this season.
Celsea are third on the Premier League table with 35 points in 18 matches.
