Liverpool’s Spanish left back Jose Enrique is set for life on the treatment table once again after he walked off the pitch against QPR during the last Premier League game of the calendar year.
Jose Enrique who was impressive for the Reds after his arrival from Newcastle in the summer of 2011 went through a slump following an injury crisis. The left back was dropped to the bench on many occasions by Brendan Rodgers specially when Glen Johnson was impressive at the left and Kelly was playing on the right. The Spaniard was brought back into the team after Kelly was seriously injured against Manchester United and Johnson missed couple of games. Enrique did not look back from that day onwards; the Spaniard was a key figure in Liverpool’s performance with impressive displays against Everton and a man of the match performance against the then table toppers Chelsea. Enrique had almost scored the winner in the dying minutes of the match against Chelsea.
He then played upfront for Liverpool against Wigan scoring a goal and assisting one. His moment of brilliance though came against his old club Newcastle. The Spaniard put a lofted through ball for Luis Suarez from a very long distance and the Uruguayan finished it off in style.
Jose Enrique was so impressive that he won the Standard Chartered’s Liverpool Player of the month for November.
Enrique was impressive with his pace and strength running down the wing, outplaying most of his opponents. The Spaniard had to be replaced with Suso for the last 20 minutes of the game with Downing moving to Left Back.
Assistant Manager Colin Pascoe said it looks like he has a tear in his hamstring. Initial assessment suggests that he could be out for 4 to 6 weeks. With tough fixtures against United and Arsenal coming up and both away matches, Liverpool might be looking to find a left back as Jack Robinson lack the experience and Downing is not a born left back.
Extend of Enrique’s absence influencing the team will be known sooner or later.
