Manchester United have joined the race for signing Arsenal’s Theo Walcott whose contract comes to an end in 6 months. The young Englishman is not ready to sign a 5 year deal with the Gunners worth £75,000 a week. It is said that he is ready to stay provided he gets a deal worth £100,000 a week.
Sir Alex Ferguson seems to be interested in the England winger. With Robin van Persie switch last year, addition of Walcott might be a good option, as it might be easy to strike an understanding. United don’t have a backup winger if Giggs plans to retire next season. They have lacked a quality natural winger on the bench and are forced to play their attackers in wider areas in the absence of Valencia and Young.
With Nani’s future under serious concern, tiring legs of Ryan Giggs, lack of form from Ashley Young, addition of Walcott to the ranks of United might be effective. The winger has got some serious pace and can be lethal in wider areas. Walcott fits into United’s style of play as United depend heavily on the wingers. A clinical final ball and early crossing makes Walcott more special. With the likes of Wayne Rooney, Van Persie, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez in the middle of the park United need a winger like Walcott who can provide a good service and feed the forwards.
Nani’s contract coming to an end, a potential swap deal with the Gunners is on the cards. But United should be varying of the threat from Chelsea, City and Liverpool as they have shown interest in signing the Gunner. With just 6 months left on his contract Arsenal might be forced into selling him for as little as £8 million, which sees a heavy competition among the clubs to secure the services of the English Winger, though Manchester United might lure him with the help of his former captain and teammate Van Persie.
