Swansea have enjoyed a fantastic start to the season and found them in the eight position. Michael Laudrup has guided Swansea to success especially with the signing of this man, Michu. The name sounds a bit weird though.
Miguel Perez Cuesta also known as Michu, has netted the ball as many as 12 times in 16 league games so far. The Spaniard has gone on to become a fan favourite at the Liberty Stadium. His debut season at Swansea has been delightful.
Michu was transferred from Spanish club Rayo Vallecano this season at just £2.2 million. Unarguably this is one of the best buys of the season in a chart which features players like Van Persie, Santi Cazorla, Lukas Podolski, Oscar, Eden Hazard, Kagawa etc.
The 6 feet, left footed Spaniard took the Premier League by storm, taking just 8 minutes to make a mark with a sweet left footed 25 yard strike against QPR. Scoring twice on his debut a lot was expected from the Spaniard and he hasn’t failed to live upto the expectations.
It’s not just scoring that has earned him the reputation, he has played in a more advanced position linking the midfield and the attack and has managed to create a lot of chances with his flick-on’s or through balls. He is not shy of getting stuck into a challenge to win the ball back and lay it off for a team mate. His height and aerial ability make him more lethal in the air, and has managed to score even from headers. The Spaniard certainly doesn’t lack pace and at times manages to split defences with his impressive runs.
Michu’s technique has been excellent and has been termed typically Spanish. He has managed to attract a lot of big clubs like Liverpool and Atlético Madrid with his style of play. But Swansea manager is certainly looking to hold onto the top scorer in January transfer window, even with clubs ready to pay as much as 30 million.
It’s fair to say that Michu has made a great start to the season, and if he remains fit he might be a tough contender for the Gloden Boot and can steer Swansea to a European spot too. And undoubtedly has been the best buy of the season.
