Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson insists that he has no plans to offload Nani in the January transfer window despite reported interest from Arsenal and Tottenham. Ferguson though did admit negotiations are ongoing with the winger as Nani is yet to sign a new deal after talks stalled in the close season.
Ferguson has sought to end speculation surrounding winger Nani’s future at Manchester United and stated that once Nani has recovered from injury he will again be in contention.
There have been gossips that the Nani could be on his way out of Old Trafford after failing to hold down a regular place in the Sir Alex’s side. Portuguese winger, who is recovering from a hamstring problem, has played just 11 times for United this season and will be out of contract in summer 2014.
Arsenal has been linked with the 26 year old but United boss has dashed their hopes.
“We won’t be letting him go. We need a Nani,” said the Ferguson.
“Yes he has a future. Absolutely. Why would I want to let him go?”
“His contract isn’t up for a year and a half. He offers something different from the other players.”
Nani signed a new four-year deal with United in March 2010.
Nani is currently in Dubai as he recovers full fitness and is expected to return to action in mid-January and Ferguson believes he will be a major asset when he returns.
“He’s an incredible talent; the boy’s a great talent,” he continued.
“Unfortunately, he’s injured at the moment. We have sent him over to Dubai for a break, to help him in his recovery,” said the Scott.
“He’s not far away but he’s far enough away. I don’t think I will get him until the middle of January.”
Quashing the rumors of Nani’s exit, Ferguson added that he had no plans for any major arrivals in the January transfer window.
“I am not looking to do any serious transfer business in January,” he said.
“I don’t have to because I am more than satisfied with the players I have in my squad, a group as good as any I have had in my time at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Ferguson was also quick to refute reports that a deal has already been agreed to bring Dortmund’s Lewandowski to the club at the end of the season.
“It’s nonsense,” he asserted. “Absolute nonsense.”
