December 23, 2012 – a very sad day for cricket lovers, especially Sachin fans, as they came to know about news which nobody would’ve even dreamt of it. Many might’ve even prayed that the news should be false or just a rumour. But when they came to know that this is true and Sachin Tendulkar will not play ODI’s for India anymore, they were literally in tears.
There are certain sections who watch cricket only for “Sachin Tendulkar”, still there are people who go for stadiums to watch Sachin’s innings alone, there are people who turn off their TV’s once Sachin gets out, there are parents who wish their kid one day would become a Sachin Tendulkar, After seeing their lovable player on field for more than 23 years, can anyone think of even to watch a cricket match (ODI) without him. He scored big or not, his presence added more power to the team.
People say that he plays for records, with this retirement he has silenced all with his own way of style. He would’ve still played and retired after scoring 50 ODI centuries, but he didn’t. He would’ve played further more and retired after scoring 20,000 runs in ODI as he is just 1500+ runs away, but he didn’t. He could’ve reached the feat of having played the most number of World Cups by any player surpassing Javed Miandad’s six World Cup appearances by playing the 2015 World Cup, but months back he openly said in an interview that he won’t be playing 2015 World Cup. Retiring from ODI cricket Sachin will now shift his focus to the longer format, who now is having a worst phase of his career. 463 ODI’s to his name, but still people want him to play and keep on playing. In some micro blogging sites some of the fans said that they were really hurt after seeing this news, some have even requested Sachin to play at least a game.
“Sachin need u back, feels like someone passed away in my circle, heart is very heavy from yesterday”
“Sachin did not retire from ODIs, 1 billion Indian cricket fans retired from ODIs”
“Sachin please give us a chance to see you wearing the Blue Jersey for one last time – please”
These were some of the reactions of fans over Sachin’s retirement. Earlier today, Sachin in his micro blogging site has tweeted that,
“Words are not enough to express my thanks to each of you for all the love & support I have received over the years & especially now in the last couple of days. Your expressions have brought joy to my heart…& at times a tear to my eye! Those magical moments of our ODI journey will stay with me for the rest of my life. Thank you so much :-)”
A big salute to you Sir!
