World number one Novak Djokovic made short his match against David Ferrer through a comfortable win by 6-0 6-3 to reach the final of World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi.
Spain’s Ferrer found it hard to deal with the Serb’sskills in a one sided first set but gradually improved to break his opponent in the ninth game, forcing a more competitive second set.
The Australian Open Champ played his first match since winning the ATP World Tour Finals in London and won comfortably against world number five Ferrer.
The exhibition tournament at the Abu Dhabi International Tennis Complex, where Djokovic triumphed last year, was the ideal way for the Serbian to warm up for the upcoming defence of his Australian Open title. Djokovic would be looking to extend his Australian open unbeaten record. He would be playing for a third successive title this year.
The second semi-final was challenging for both players as Nicholas Almagro recovered from a set down to beat Janko Tipsarevic 2-6 7-6 (7/4) 6-2. It would ne Djokovic against Almagro in the finals of Abu Dhabi tournament to be played on Saturday.
Tipsarevic, who had gone pastBritain’s Andy Murray, dominated the first set, breaking his opponent twice and winning the set 6-2 with ease.
But Almagro came back strongly in an exhaustive second set, with no breaks coming. The set went onto a tie-break.
It was the Spaniard who found the extra energy to go clear, with Tipsarevic managing to claw his way back with a couple of points but in the end Almagro took the set.
Almagrodid not look back and slowly but surely took the game away from Tipsarevic. The performance saw the world number 11 through to Saturday’s final.
