In surprise transfer news, Arsenal is all set to make a move against Barcelona striker David Villa in the January transfer window. Arsene Wenger has long been an admirer of the Spanish forward and speculations are rife that he is keen on roping him in following Arsenal’s poor run in the Premier League so far.
Villa was out of action for nine months owing to a leg injury. Since his return earlier this season, he has been struggling to get a spot in the Barcelona line up. Despite finding the net on a number of occasions, Barca boss Tito Vilanova has favoured others over him to form the attack.
Reports suggest that the lack of first team football at Camp Nou has frustrated him and may prompt the Spanish International to make this move to the Emirates Stadium. Sources in Spain have also said that Barcelona may also let him leave if he shows any interest in the transfer.
The Gunners are interested in signing the 31-yr old on a loan for the rest of this season and may then strike a permanent deal depending on how well he adapts to English Football and meets their expectations.
Arsenal has struggled this season after Robin Van Persie’s transfer to Manchester United and David Villa would add a lot of class and technique to their frontline goal scoring helping them to maintain their fourth position in the Premier League table.
If this move is finalised, Villa would be the third Spaniard in the Arsenal first-team squad besides Vice-captain Mikel Arteta and the attacking midfielder Santi Cazorla.
Though Barca chief Andoni Zubizarreta has denied the linkup, the news of a possible move has come as a Christmas gift and has delighted the Arsenal fans.
