City needed a win to help get their confidence up high after a dismal performance in the Champions League against Ajax.
Both Villa Boas and Mancini would have been hoping for 3 points after dropping points in their last fixture.
Villa Boas played Brad Freidel ahead of French stopper and Captain Hugo Lloris. Emmanuel Adebayor was surprisingly given his first start ahead of the inform Defoe.
Mancini decided to leave out controversial striker Mario Balotelli out of the team itself for the encounter. Rumors are that City might sell the player to make funds for transfers with AC Milan showing interest for the former Inter Milan player.
David Silva was back in the starting lineup for the Citizens.
City played well in the first half but went behind after a mistake by Joe Hart following a Caulker header.
The match had to be stopped a minute after it had started after Adebayor went down in pain. The play resumed after few minutes and the striker was back on his feet.
Gareth Bale was once again impressive for Spurs with his pace and dribbling. Nastasic was down for the hosts in the 39th minute and had to receive medical treatment but was back on the pitch soon.
With City still trailing in the second half Mancini made his first change with Maicon replacing Nastasic. The Brazilian must have had memories from the champions league encounter with Spurs two years back when Bale made a complete fool out of him.
Tevez kept on giving the Spurs defenders problems with his moments but grew irritated as he was pulled offside on many occasions. The equalizer finally came for City through Sergio Aguero when he finished off in style with his left foot.
Yaya Toure was the next man in the match who needed medical attention after a collision.
In the 73rd minute Mancini bought on his Super Sub – Edin Dzeko in place of Carlos Tevez.
Spurs had to replace Kyle walker with Michael Dawson in the 78th minute probably due to injury. This was Dawson’s 6th appearance for the club.
The winner came in the 88th minute through Dzeko with Silva getting the assist. The build up to the goal was great but the finish was even better as he hit the ball on the turn from his chest level. This is not the first time City have won a match coming from behind and not the first time that Dzeko has been the difference. Dzeko is City’s leading goal scorer in all competitions.
The win means City are now second ahead of Chelsea by one point following their draw against Liverpool and behind their arch rivals and table toppers United by one point.
