Just days after the ruthless sacking of Roberto De Matteo as Chelsea manager; another London club follows in their footsteps by dismissing their manager. Queens Park Rangers parted ways with Mark Hughes following the clubs terrible performance this season. QPR who had signed proven veteran players from big clubs and some young talent this season were expected to have a good season, but the Londoners were left with just 2 points after 12 matches in the Premier League, which also means they are still on a duck.
Mark Hughes was also the former Manchester City manager before Roberto Mancini took over. Mancini is rumored to be the next in line to lose his job after City failed to qualify for the Champions League for the second consecutive time.
QPR had signed player like Julio Caesar from Inter Milan, Park Ji Sung from Manchester United, Jose Bosingwa who had left Chelsea after winning the Champions League, Sergio Canales from Real Madrid and many more. They even took on of the Da Silva twins on loan from United (Fabio). The quality of the signings was good but their performance was dismal. Hughes faced the axe after they lost to bottom placed Southampton last week.
Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp will take over as manager. Redknapp had always indicated that he wants to stay with an English club and he would have been overwhelmed that he got a chane to be with another London club. The QPR fans wanted the former Spurs man to take over after banters were put up asking Harry to join them as manager. Redknapp will take over the position after QPR’s trip to Manchester on Saturday.
Hughes assistant Mark Bowen will be in charge for the game against United tomorrow.
This is the second manager to be sacked in the premier league this week and both are London clubs. With the amount of money that owners are spending these days, they expect instant success and once that is not achieved the managers face the blame. Although Hughes case is not as shocking as Matteo, it is always sad to see a manager leave his club like this. Imagine if Manchester United had sacked Alex Ferguson after his first two seasons at the club?
