The highly rated 20 year old midfielder whom pundits and fans together claim to be the next big thing in English football after Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard is back on the field after being sidelined for over a year. Jack Wilshere had undergone a surgery on 26th September 2011. He was initially sidelined for 5 months but on 27th January and then again in April recurrence of his injury kept him out for the entire season. He missed England’s Euro 2012 campaign and Great Britain’s Olympic captain.
Roy Hogdson having thoughts about selecting Wilshere for England’s Euro squad had he recovered in time for the tournament and despite playing no football for an entire season pretty much sums up how big a player he is.
Wilshere was handed the number ten jersey in the 2012-13 season which was previously worn by club captains Cesc Fabregas and then recently Robin Van Persie.
On October 1st the Gunners fans had a great news as young Wilshere played against Bolton Wanderers in a reserves match. Wilshere was an unused substitute in Arsenal’s recent loss to Norwich City on Saturday. Wilshere played for Arsenal U21 on Monday against Everton and set up both the goals as they won 2-1. This was his 4th game for the reserves side since his return after the 14 month lay – off due to injury. He also played the full 90 minutes in a behind the door friendly last week against Chelsea. In his most recent match against Everton U21 alongside him were Bacaray Sagna and Emmanuel Frimpong who are also on the verge of return from injuries.
It is expected that Wishere will make his first start for Arsenal in their match against Reading and what will be an even bigger boost for him is if he can put them back to their winning ways. Wilshere will be eager to be back on the field and so will be the fans and the manager. If he can keep himself fit and in form for the entire season then it would be too early to rule them out of the race to the title. Yes! A team is not built around one person, but the recent signings of Podolski and Cazorla have been good so far and Girourd has the most assists for the Gunners this season. Arsenal have had a strong defensive display so far this season. So if Wilshere is added to the equation things look really balanced for Arsenal.
Wilshere playing is also a big boost for the England national team as they might want to shuffle their team for the next match. England are now dependent on players like Gerrad, Lampard, Parker and Carrick, but one cannot say how long they can deliver. If Wishere can step into their shoes along with the likes of Manchester United Cleverly or Liverpool’s Shelvey. England will have a better squad to play in the coming years.
Wilshere’s game play is known for his vision passing and combination play. Arsene Wenger described him as having “Spanish Technique but an English Heart”. Owen Coyle the manager of Bolton when Jack played for them on loan said he can tackle and can take a knock. He is known to have problems with his temper. He is box to box player more than a holding midfielder.
Will Wishere be the next Gerrard, Lampard, Beckham or Scholes? Only time will tell.
