For some, the task is to show that they are in London Olympics 2012 to not just make up numbers.
Judo (Women’s 63kg) – Enjoy the occasion
Garima Chaudhary is our only representation at judo in London Olympics. Garima may be new to Olympics but no rookie at all. She won the national championship seven times and also won gold in South Asian games. For this 22year old judo national champion, London Olympics is about getting exposure and living the dream. Nothing is expected from her and draw just made her to come back home early. She will facing the current world champion and one of the favourites Yoshie Ueno in her first round itself.
Rowing (Single sculls and Lightweight double sculls) – Performance improvement needed
This is the fourth consecutive time, Indian rowers qualified for Olympics. An achievement, they should be proud about and strive harder to improve their performance. Swarn Singh Virk will represent India at single sculls. Actually Virk topped the the London Olympic qualification in Korea after beating the Chinese and Iranian opponents. Virk had won Olympic trial at the Hussain Sagar Lake against seasoned Armyman and Beijing Olympian Bajrang Lal Takhar. He looks promising but expecting a medal is too much. Qualifying for finals will do good for him and nation.
In lightweight double sculls, Manjeet Singh and Sandeep Kumar will be representing India. Again a medal is distant dream for them. It is all about participating and providing a improved result than Beijing Olympics.
Swimming (1500m freestyle) – Enjoy the occasion
Gagan Ullalmath earned a surprise berth for London Olympics. He might be still not awaken from that surprise and will surely be awe-struck when he swims along with world best swimmers. This will be great moment for him and a learning curve to better his performance in upcoming tournaments. He will aiming to better his personal best of 15:59.33 that had earned him a silver at the Asian age group championship in Jakarta last year.
The aim should be putting up a good performance and try to better their personal best. Fighting not frighting matters for them.
