Valencia will now say hola to their new coach and Argentine former player, Mauricio Pellegrino. He will be replacing Unai Emery from the next season and will be on for two consecutive seasons.
Unai Emery lifted the team and placed it in a position that seemed too unlikely a couple years ago. His leave however was already in the running after this season.
Valencia came in third this time in La Liga. The two teams that topped the spot were Real Madrid and Barcelona. Coming in third place gives Valencia a walk to the Champions League, for the third time now.
Emery, 10, first joined Valencia back in the year 2008 coming from Almeria. There were tough and tall times through which the team had to play under from then on and even despite working as hard as he could, he never managed to impress the audiences with his coaching then.
There were troubled phases where the club was dealing with high debts along with selling of crucial players. They had to sell David Villa to Barcelona, David Silva to Manchester City and also Juan Mata to Chelsea.
But even then, Emery was continuously working and shaping the team to perform better with each passing season. The ease-coast club now stands at an admirable position, having come a long, long way since 2008. The club is now the third best in Spain. Of course the players are to be credited but the mentor has been as hard working as he could be.
The team reached the semi finals of the King’s Cup and now the third in the Europa League.
Mauricio Pellegrino, now at 40, used to play as a center back when the team won the title in the years 2002 and 2004. They also lifted the UEFA cup in the year 2004. After that, he was the assistance coach to Rafa Benitez for Liverpool and Inter Milan.
He joined Valencia in the year of 1999. He spent over 5 seasons with them. He has played a major part in getting the team to the finals of Champions League.
Valencia now have a single game left to play: an away game at Real Sociedad. They are currently six points ahead of Malaga, who lie at fourth position, and 29 points behind Bara, who are at the second place.
