As Barcelona bids its byes to Pep Guardiola, it made sure to send off a smiling coach. And it was just that as the Barca and Bilbao game ended with a win in the Copa del Rey final. With 14 trophies to proudly show off, Guardiola can enjoy his leave with pride. He joined Catalan Giants back in the year 2008-09 from Frank Rijkaard. The driver’s seat will be now Guardiola’s assistant’s name and reign, Tito Vilanova.
The four year long relationship ended with wins, defeats, experiences and many, many memories for both the team as well as the mentor. The star of the team, Lionel Messi finishes the season with 73 goals. Even with Gorka Iraizoz’s attempted interference which was quite commendable on its own, Messi could not be held back. Messi’s narrow kick slashed into the goal and the Argentinean spread out his arms in ecstasy. Soon afterwards Pedro added to the score by another goal. The two by Pedro and another by Messi gave the team a comfortable win. This would perhaps soothe the sorrows of not making it in the Champions League finals to which Chelsea took the crown.
Throughout the game Barca had the domineering role to play, both in the first as well as the second half and deserved the win of 3-0 they seized over Athletic Bilbao. The whole team must have happily exclaimed “Thank God it’s Friday”.
For Guardiola several teams have put out their offers and bid to get him into their side. According to Guardiola however, he says that he will weight out all the options provided before making any decision whenever he decied to come bacl. He said that the opening is still running and he will happily respond to all the offers he will get. But for now, Guardiola wants to unwind and take it easy. If a club makes an enticing offer, he may consider the approach.
“For the next months I have to charge my batteries and charge my mind. I will wait. I am going to rest and I will wait”.
In total, Guardiola has 14 trophies, with three league titles included, two Champions League titles and a Copa del Rey to his name. His sabbatical may end earlier if he picks a team to coach again soon.
