All’s well when the season ends in a pleasant climate and what an extraordinary finish this was! Chelsea; the European Champions celebrated their victory after passing through bumps and bounces of a stressful yet fulfilling season.
Like any other finals, this too was centered and coated with thrill and exhilaration. The Allianz Arena was dripping in anticipation to see who will be next on the throne and it was Chelsea that took the crown.
In the last game for the Chelsea team, Didier Drogba ended the tensions by kicking in to victory. There were two minutes still remaining on the clock and the score was evened out by Drogba and went on to extra time. Chelsea just wasn’t ready to let go yet.
It was now extra time and once again the opportunity seemed to side with Bayern as they won the toss and chose which side they would like for the shootout to happen. When the shootouts began, Bayern looked lucky but thankfully to their opponents, Petr Cech saved Arjen Robben’s penalty. This happened after Franck Ribery was fouled by Drogba.
At that point, everything seemed to be at level. Anything could happen. From the thousands of hope and aspirations from the fans, to the sweat of the players, the finances of the investors, the extra time was to decide which team would go home and celebrate the win and which would have to put on a happy face.
The penalty shootout made it to seem that Bayern just might take home the cup as the score at a point was 3-1 but what happened after that twisted the whole evening around. First Juan Marta, who went in first for the sport kick, missed it. After that Ivica Olic missed it for Bayern. When Schweinsteiger’s hit the pole, the gap was the opening to the celebrations for Chelsea as Drogba gave the game a gold finish.
Drogba said that he really had faith in his team and destiny played an important role today.
“It was written a long time ago. This team is amazing and I dedicate this cup to all the managers and players we had before”.
And now for Chelsea, nothing could get better at this point.
Of course finals are meant just for one winner and for one side to celebrate the victory but it truly is magnificent when you’re on that side.
