The cherry on the pie is winning over the long-reigning, acclaimed hero and in this case, it was a whole cherry orchard! There are the kings and queens in every sport and when one sweeps the tournament from their grasp, that feeling of achievement along with all the applaud is what makes the proud, even prouder.
This is exactly what happened at the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow Club and if its golf, then Rory Mcllroy has to be there. Rickie Fowler is the newly crowned champion at the tournament. He later said that when the introductions came about, they [authorities] would say the names of the participating players and along with that they would name all the many tournaments they have won. When it came to his turn, there would be no title to title but thankfully, after this, the picture is all to change.
“You get guys who have won two, three, four times and they name the events, and then they say my name and I tee off”.
Just like the tennis stars have their mantras of their games and the kinds of outfits they like to show off, whether it may be the blazer of Sharapova or huge earrings of the William sisters, Fowler too has his own style statement to make. He is known for his bright color choices of t-shirts. And bright means bright like the sun! Fowler’s rather standing-out outfit is the orange combo he wears when he plays on Sundays.
Well besides the colors and the outfits, the 23 year old played Sunday’s tournament with the exact amount of aggression he needed. There were several instances where he came second on the tour but he got it right at the last part on Sunday and well deserved!
From the first playoff hole that was good to birdie, he was ahead of Mcllroy and D. A. Points.
He is more than relieved to have “shut” the people up who never believed he could win. According to Fowler, there were several people who had their doubts and fears and never thought Fowler would make it this far.
With this, he has also earned a straight entry to the Masters Next year.
