First losses were speculated as perhaps being under match-fixing but so are wins now. Wednesday’s match of Bahrain versus Indonesia which resulted in a 10-0 win to the former has raised eyebrows.
The Football’s global governing body FIFA have termed their win as “unusual” and will examine it to find out if there are some other factors that were included. This was the Asian qualifying section and this particular win has qualified Bahrain into the World Cup. The next World Cup is to be held in 2014.
Bahrain had needed to not only win this match but also have Qatar lose theirs against Iran. Qatar did manage to score in the 86th minute but the 9 goal deficit made up for the requirement of Bahrain to qualifying. Bahrain was the part of Group E and had scored just three goals in their previous matches. Indonesia, on the other hand, lost all their matches. They managed to score 16 goals all throughout but nonetheless, in vain.
Peter Taylor, former England’s caretaker manager, coaches Bahrain at the moment was more than pleased with the way the team performed. Indonesia’s goalkeeper was sent off early and the team had to continue with one less.
The statement that was released by FIFA said:
“Given the unusual outcome in relation to the results-expectation and head-to-head history, in the interests of maintaining unequivocal confidence in our game, FIFA security will conduct a routine examination of this game and its result.”
During September’s match between Bahrain and Indonesia, Bahrain won the game with a 2-0 win in the captain, Jakarta. By that time, each had two wins and two evens. That game brought the competition at par and even more thrilling.
Brazil is going to host World Cup in the year 2014 that being their second time so far. After that Russia will play host in 2018. They have won the cup five times till now. Qatar is to host the championship in 2022, ten years to go!
