Indian selectors and selections are always coupled with mistakes and mind twinkling questions.
The Indian selectors named an unchanged squad for the remaining three ODIs against England. After comprehensively winning the first two ODI against England, it is expected that India will retain the same team to inject confidence on young bloods. But if they wanted to show good management from their side, then they should have waited till 3rd ODI result to announce the last 2 ODI squad and T20 Squad.
With West Indies series starting from November 6th which is just 7 days after T20 match against England, It is no better time to give Dhoni a well deserved rest if India wins the third match and seal the series. But since this option is out now, it will be interesting to see when Dhoni and Raina will be given a long break before the all important very long Australian tour.
ODI Squad: MS Dhoni (capt & wk), Gautam Gambhir (vice capt), Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Suresh Raina, Parthiv Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Praveen Kumar, Vinay Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Manoj Tiwary, Varun Aaron, Rahul Sharma, S Aravind.
The selectors also named the 15-man squad for the one off Twenty20 International in Kolkata on October 29th. There are couple of changes from ODI squad to T20 squad with one was forced to make. Robin Uthappa has been recalled to the Indian squad since Gambhir will be unavailable on October 29th due to his marriage. Robin makes his comeback into Indian squad after more than three years. Yusuf Pathan was also recalled in the place of Parthiv Patel and rest remained same from ODI squad.
Twenty20 Squad: MS Dhoni (capt and wk), Suresh Raina, Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli, Yusuf Pathan, Robin Uthappa, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Praveen Kumar, Vinay Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Manoj Tiwary, Rahul Sharma, S Aravind.
With only one opener other than him in T20 Squad, Uthappa can relish his chances to make a big impact from probably his only chance atleast for next 6 months in Indian team.
The selectors not yet announced the date for Indian test team selection against West Indies which starts from November 6th. The good news for all Indians is Sachin has started training again with light jog and little batting practice in his home town on October 15th first up after the toe injury. The bulk of other injured Indian players are also expected to make a comeback in that test series starting from the likes of Sehwag, Yuvraj, Ishant and rookie Pujara.
