The final day of transfer window always brings the excitement and shocks of last minute signings. This year it was no different as the clubs made one last try to sign their suitable players. So let’s take a look of who went where and what can we expect from the new signings:
Arsenal were the busiest during the last day of summer transfer window. They signed four players which includes Mikel Arteta, Per Mertesacker,Yossi Benayoun and Andre Santos on deadline day. Arsenal desperately needed some new players and Arsene Wenger has signed some genuine good players. Mertesacker is a giant at the back. His height is 6′ 5”, he is not only got aerially but he is also good at tackling. Mikel Arteta will look to fill the void of his compatriot Cesc Fabregas. Arteta has great vision and also has a keen eye for goal. Yossi Benayoun taken on loan from Chelsea is a very underrated but effective player. He can also play on the wings if needed which gives Arsenal more dynamism in the middle of the park. Andre Santos the Brazilian left back is also a good addition to the squad. He is an attacking fullback and also has a great left foot. Arsenal let go of few of their players most notable of them was Nicklas Bendtner who was loaned to Sunderland.
On the other hand Liverpool signed their former player Craig Bellamy. Bellamy’s arrival led to the departure of David N’Gog to Bolton. Liverpool also cleared some dead wood by selling Christian Poulsen, sending Joe Cole on loan to Lille and releasing Philip Degen on free.
Chelsea who were gunning for Modric all summer made bids to sign him on the deadline day also but after seeing all of their bids rejected, the blues turned their attentions to a much cheaper alternative in Raul Miereles. Miereles will provide the creative spark and flair in the middle of the park which Chelsea needs. Chelsea though have loaned youngsters Patrick Van Anholt, Gael Kakuta and Ulises Davila.
Cash rich Manchester City made a shock move by signing injury prone Owen Hargreaves for a 1 year deal. City have sold Shaun Wright Phillips to QPR.
Tottenham signed Scott Parker but sold six other players while doing so. Tottenham sold duo Crouch and Wilson Palacios to Stoke. Stoke were pretty busy during the transfer not only they signed Crouch and Palacios they also signed striker Cameron Jerome form Birmingham City. Aston Villa signed Spurs duo Jenas and Hutton.
Blackburn managed to snap up Scott Dann from Birmingham and Yakubu from Everton. Everton also sold Jermaine Beckford who had a very inconsistent last season with them whereas Fulham managed to persuade mercurial winger Bryan Ruiz to Craven Cottage. With most of the Premier League teams involved in dealings, the champions Manchester United didn’t make a deal for any player on the deadline day.
