This US Open has all the favorite champs playing for the title this year and almost all of them playing with some injury or the other.
Nadal, who has been facing injuries since his Wimbledon Finals against Djokovic, is trying not to let it affect his performance in the US Open. However he said that he will still be giving his 100% on all his upcoming matches.
Even his opponent and winner of Wimbledon 2011, had to leave Cincinnati Open due to a sore shoulder is set on giving his matches only “No. 1” performance.
The former World No. 1, Williams, after having to exit early due to her recurring injuries and wanting to give it all she got for the US Open wants to make game every ruthless as possible.
Men’s World No. 1, Djokovic, had an easy walk to the next round as his opponent was a victim of food poisoning and unfortunately had to exit early. Djokovic has played 59 matches in this year so far and is eyeing to make this grand slam his 3rd win so far this season. Even though he couldn’t grab the Cincinnati Open title due to a shoulder injury, his performance has been brilliant in all his games. As of now he is fit to perform at his best in the US Open.
Jo-Wilfred Tsonga would probably be amongst the very few who is playing this tournament without an injury. It was last year that she had to exit the US Open due to a knee injury. She returned with a win over Taiwan’s Lu Yen-Hsun with a 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 victory.
While some of the other title holders are struggling to stay in the US Open, World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki advanced into the second round with much ease. Her opening match on Tuesday was against Nuria Llagostera Vives, ranking in the 125th position; the score at the end of their match read 6-3, 6-1.
The same court Wozniacki played in was to have tennis sensations Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic playing later on during the tournament and all wishing for the same result.
The past few opening matches of the US Open have been all the more surprising than conventional. The fans saw Li Na exit at her opening match and Sharapova making in to the next round after having worked off every sweat in her game.
With all the early exits and easy wins, US Open 2011 is anything but predictable and that is perhaps what makes it more attractive than ever.
