Gian Piero Gasperini, Inter Milan manager has been sacked after a poor start to the season. This is a hefty fine that Gasperini had to pay after regular losses and defeats by the club.
Milan lost in the European’s Champions League by 3-1 against newcomers Novara which was the main reason for the sack. Gasperini was first appointed in June however the team has only had downfalls after his joining. They currently stand at 17th position, one place outside the relegation zone.
The team also lost to their bitter rivals AC Milan at the Italian Super Cup in August as well as their second game against Trabzonspor in the European Champions League. By Tuesday, Milan had two defeats in three league matches.
Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti expressed his regret over the losses and said that there could be nothing good about defeats. There were necessary actions to be taken, whether anyone like it or not.
After his sack, the team practiced with Daniele Bernazzani and Giuseppe Baresi, the assistance coaches, at the Centro Sportivo Angelo Moratti in Appiano Gentile.
Even after the sack however, the club made a statement saying that they regret for such a decision and would like to thank Gasperini for his dedication towards the team till now.
“The club would like to thank Gian Piero Gasperini for the dedication he has shown in his work and regret having to end the relationship with the coach.”
This would not be the first time that the club has taken such a decision. Gasperini was replaced by the Braziliam coach Leonardo, after the former was sacked in November 2010.
Gasperini was unhappy with the decision and said that the result after a couple games decided everything, which was very unfortunate.
“Results are what decide everything, I’m very disappointed,” he said. He also said that till the time he was the coach, his relations with the team and the management was very sound and stable and he was very upset that it had to end this way.
The situation being very delicate was nonetheless a necessary step, believe the authorities. It was said that all possible steps would be taken to ensure that the club performs at their absolute best and if that means that some uncalled actions would have to be taken, then so be it.
Milan is still without a coach while Gasperini packs away his bags.
