His Repsol Honda rocketed all through the track course and past the finish line to grab the win at the Aragon Grand Prix in Spain. This is Stoner’s step closer to winning a second MotoGP world title to his name.
Right from the practice session, it was Stoner’s Honda that zipped through delivering the fastest time and now he finished 8 seconds ahead of his team-mate Dani Pedrosa. This would be Stoner’s 8th win out of the 14 races he raced this season. He is definitely climbing the ladder with each of his races in attempt to win the second world title.
His first win was back in 2007 with Ducati. The Australian now stands ahead in the rankings by 44 points with the second position occupied with Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo. There still are four more rounds to go and it would still be too early to have chosen our winner as each round would bring more ups and downs with the ranking points with the corresponding wins and timings.
Stoner did not have the race at start as he was many times left behind by either Pedrosa or Ben Spies. There was an ongoing battle between the three, with each of them taking the lead at one point or the other. Mostly, Stoner had to struggle at the start of the race to keep up his speed and then take over successfully in the latter part of the race. But he did manage to do so and just in time to finish ahead of the others.
He was satisfied with the way he performed and regardless of all the chasing and overtaking; Stoner was content that he finished ahead of everyone else. He tried his best to stay close to his teammates all through the race however it was Pedrosa who was left behind after some time as he could not keep up. Pedrosa finished in fifth position.
“It felt good all weekend. The bike has been fantastic and the only problem was the wind – it was changing direction and speed every lap so that was a challenge but I just had to bring it home.
The day was windy and there were many drivers who gave up on the conditions and pulled out early. Andrea Dovizioso with his Honda lost control of the steer just in the first lap itself, which was a shame as he was maintaining his third position in the race till then.
There still are four more rounds to go and more racing to cheer but for now Stoner can celebrate his victory.
