Defending F1 champion Sebastian Vettel won the Belgian Grand Prix to make it his seventh win of the season. Not only Vettel his Red Bull teammate Mark Webber finished the race in second spot making it a red bull one two. Mclaren driver Jenson Button finished the race in 3rd position.
Vettel started the race from the pole followed by Lewis Hamilton in the Mclaren. Lewis in 113 points behind Vettel wanted a good result out of this GP in order to stay in contention but that didn’t happen. Hamilton crashed out on lap 13. This presented Vettel with a great opportunity to increase the gap over his closest rival and he grabbed it with both hands. This was Vettel’s first win since June. After winning the GP Vettel said – “I enjoyed every lap today. The car was fantastic to drive,” if the car does what you want it to do, this place is really fun. It was a very entertaining race, with the strategy to come in early.”
Though Vettel got the victory, the drivers of the day were Michael Schumacher and Jenson Button. Button started 13th on the grid and drove his car all the way to snatch 3rd place. Button also had a front wing and rear wing damage which dropped him back to 19th place. But he drove superbly to grab a position on the podium. Button said – “Turn one was mayhem caused by the guys up front, Paul Di Resta hit my rear wing, damaged my rear wing, half the endplate was gone and driving to Eau Rouge someone’s rear wing came off and went through my front wing and took the mirror off. But all weekend the car felt great.”
Schumacher celebrated his 20th anniversary of his Formula One debut with some style. He started from 24th place but managed to finish as 5th.
Vettel’s win in the Belgian GP increases his lead in the championship standings by 92 points over his fellow teammate Mark Webber. With only 7 races to go Sebastian Vettel looks set to defend his world championship title.
