Vaughan recently tweeted about a 4-0 win for England as the news of Zaheer missing the rest of the England tour, spread around. He said it would be almost impossible for India to take 20 English wickets without their main bowling spearhead. He added that the IPL is what, he thinks, a long term problem for the Indian Test team as most of the young players will be focusing towards T20 cricket.
This comes after Ian Botham, the former English player had stated his views that the host will take the test series 4-0 leaving behind a humiliated Indian side.
These comments further add insult to injury as a very low-spirited Indian side look to recover from the massive 2-0 loss against the hosts. The side will be facing England in the third test with quite a few changes as Harbhajan Singh will be replaced by Pragyan Ojha, yuvraj Singh by Virat Kholi and Zaheer Khan by RP Singh. Virender Sehwag will be making a comeback into the side after a long time. Even Gautam Ghabhir is expected to fully recover from the blow he received during the second test.
Dhoni, who till the start of the series was the hero bringing World Cup glory back to India, suddenly looks out of sort. His batting form has hit a low and he has not been in his best form behind wickets as well. Moreover now, he is facing the threat of having to register his first test series loss and losing the top test spot. Former Indian players and commentators have been commenting on how he his facing his first major test as a captain and as a player but they still feel no one could do a better job than him. He has gained ample experience over the years and has been known to have the temperament required to handle such situations.
Going into the third test at Edgbaston, England recon it will assist the spinners and offer early swing for the seam bowlers. It seems to be the perfect track for England bowlers to carry on their great show as per the last two matches. India’s batting, which is considered it’s strength, will have will a huge challenge in front of them to lift themselves up from this slump and try and make a comeback in the series.
