Amongst all the other changes that all clubs are going through, Manchester United have decided to keep Antonio Valencia in their team. The player will remain a red shirt for four more years; the duration of the contract.
Valencia sounded zestful as he commented on the deal saying that he was happy to be a part of the English Premier League Champions and who wouldn’t be. He also said that it would be once again be great to play under Sir Alex Ferguson.
The official website of the United States “I am delighted to stay at United. Since my first day at Carrington have been happy here. I hope that I can continue to develop as a player”. Carrington is the team’s practice ground. He also said that he wishes to evolve and grow as a player and perform better with a team he has been with for a couple seasons now.
Ferguson also was all praise for the 25-year-old and said that the club was happy to retain him as he is an asset to the team’s performance. He said that Valencia’s performance so far has been with utmost agility, dedication and commitment and he would like to see him perform the same way in the coming season as well.
Valencia is not known to be a loudmouth or a talkative person. Even during practices, he contributes his 100% and all from his play and little from his mouth.
He was injured last season and this restricted his appearances for the team as he came out to play just 10 games as it took him around five months to recover. Since his recovery, there will be more of the player in the coming season. In total, the Equador winger has made 69 appearances for the team and was successful with 14 goals.
He joined the club back in 2009 coming from Wigan Athletic in June and will now remain tied to the champions till the May 2014-2015 season.
Manchester United will travel to West Bromwich on August 14 for their Premier League title defense trip.
The recruitment of Ashley Young or Valencia was a hot topic for some while now as there were many clubs who were eyeing for Young including Barca and AC Milan. Ferguson however, finally made up him mind.
Having missed a large portion of last season’s games, this upcoming trip as well as the season will be a great opportunity to play his best performance and to assure the rest that the decision of a renewal contract was the right decision.
