Ecuadorian winger Antonio Valencia has committed his future to Manchester United by signing a 4 year contract. Valencia, 25 will now stay at Old Trafford until 2014/15 season.
Valencia joined United two years ago from Wigan after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Madrid. Since then he has made 69 appearances for the club scoring 10 goals. United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was delighted with the deal and said – “Antonio has made a fantastic contribution since his arrival. His speed, crossing ability and versatility have been a big asset for us. He has a quiet, unassuming way of going about his business, which is underlined by great strength of character as his recovery from such a bad injury last season proves.”
Valencia emerged as key player for United during the past two seasons. His direct approach, his strength and ability to go pass defenders is unmatched. But last season he was hit by an ugly leg injury which sidelined him for 5 months. But he made a successful return to the team and helped Manchester United win the Premier League and reach the Champions League final. Valencia who was also delighted to sign the deal said – “I am delighted to stay at United. Since my first day of training at Carrington, I have been happy here. I hope that I can continue to develop as a player. I am looking forward to making my contribution to helping this squad competes for more trophies.”
With the arrival of Ashley Young, Valencia will now have to fight for his place in the squad. But with his skill and abilities he can surely be the number one choice.
