Amongst all the exciting championships that are taking place around the world at the moment, Paderborn in Germany is hosting the 23rd World Men’s Championships. The 8 days of tournament: 21st of August till the 27th had a stunning opening ceremony and the Germans certainly take all the credit for that.
The opening match took place between the host country and Ireland in which Germany took over the match with a 2-1 score. Derek Ryan and Simon Rosner were especially pleased with the win and this gave Ryan his 198th cap. His eyes are set on making that to a 200th. Both the players were happy that the crowd showed so much support. Germany will next play England.
“It can’t get better than this”, Rosner said. According to him, all the tournaments should be like this one.
The other side however showed their disappointment. Steve Richardson of Ireland said that he wasn’t playing with his whole heart and mind. Even though the games were close, they were not able to convert it to wins.
Besides the play, the arrangements of the tournament have caught the attention of the players and audience. The music, lighting, and the high-on support from the crowd in claps and cheers made the first day a hit in itself.
The other opening match had England and Spain with a score of 3-0. Clearly it was an easy win. The same score was for France versus Argentina.
There will be eight matches played simultaneously for the first couple of days and the eight seeded teams all successfully won their opening matches. Those teams included England, France, Netherlands, Mexico, India, South Africa, Germany and Scotland. The games with Germany and Scotland, however, went to deciders before they could secure their wins but managed to anyhow.
The second session had USA, Pakistan, Malaysia, Australia, Finland, Egypt, Italy, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Switzerland in the group. The first six of the named won their matches and Italy’s match went on a decider with Marcus Berret finally pulling Italy to the win against Swiss John Williams. Dick Lao and Max Lee of Hong Kong also beat New Zealand with a score that ended as 2-0.
This was just the starting of the championships as there still are many more days of play and fun left at the world championships. For now, the hosts get a perfect score both for hosting as well as their performances.
