Manchester City have completed the signing of France and Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri by slashing £24million. Nasri, 24, has signed a four year contract with City worth £180,000 per week. Nasri is the fifth new signing for City and he has been given the number 19 shirt. Nasri could make his debut in the coming Premier League match against Spurs.
City’s spending spree continues as they look to build a squad which can challenge for both Champions League and the Premier League. City have already signed the likes of Sergio Aguero, Gael Clichy, Stefan Savic and Costel Pantilimon. City already have a very good lineup and a player like Samir Nasri will surely make the team even better. City were chasing Nasri for a long time now after United cooled their interest on him. After successfully completing his move to the Etihad stadium, Nasri said – “It’s a big relief because it was a long negotiation between the two clubs. Now I’m a City player and that’s what I wanted from the start so I’m really happy. I was frustrated because I said I wanted to leave, but I stayed for the pre-season, I wanted to do pre-season in Manchester and get to know my team-mates. Today is a big day for me, it’s a new start and I’m looking forward to doing it.”
It is being said that Arsenal and France legend Patrick Vieira, who is the current football development executive at Manchester City influenced the transfer of Nasri to Manchester City. Speaking about his transfer Nasri said – “Patrick made a big difference, he is a legend in France. When a player like this who has played for Arsenal and Inter Milan says it is the club of future, then they have a big project.”
Nasri also consulted Kolo Toure and Gael Clichy who where his former Arsenal teammates.
In his 127 appearances for Arsenal Nasri scored 25 goals. But he showed his real class last season when he scored 15 goals for the Gunners and also got the PFA player of the year. Manchester City manger Roberto Manchini was simply delighted to get Samir Nasri on board. Describing Nasri he said – “He’s a fantastic player because he has technique, he has mentality. I knew him when he played for Marseille. I followed him when I was at Inter and we wanted to take him five years ago. But I think in the last few years in the Premier League he’s improved a lot. Now I think he’s a top player.”
With City looking serious title contenders it will be seen how Arsenal pick themselves up after losing their most prized assets.
