Chelsea have finally completed the signing of teenage striker Romelu Lukaku with a fee which is reportedly around £15 to £20 million. Belgian international Lukaku was a target for Blues for long and he is tipped as the replacement for Didier Drogba. Lukaku who idolizes Drogba will now have a chance to play and train with him. Lukaku is given the no 18 jersey and he will be available for selection for the next Premier League game.
Lukaku always dreamt of moving to Chelsea as Chelsea is his favorite club. He said – “I dreamed to play here since I was 10 years old, thinking about shaking hands with all those players like John Terry and Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba. It’s amazing to arrive here in a big club with big ambition. It was just what I was searching for. ”
Lukaku scored 18 goals in the 37 games he played for Anderlecht last season. He has also made 10 appearances for Belgium where he has managed to score 2 goals. He helped Anderlecht to win the Belgian League last season. Lukaku’s physical strength is immense and his also has good pace. He is also good in the air and also has a good eye for goal. He has all the attributes to become a good target man. For his physic and style of play he is often compared with Drogba. In this context Lukaku said – “We have similar playing styles, but I am also very fast. I want to learn from him how it is to play here at the Bridge and how to prepare for games.”
With strikers like Drogba, Torres, Anelka on the board and Kalou, Sturridge on the wings Lukaku will have a tough time to break into the Chelsea first team. Chelsea might have to sell or loan some players in order to keep everyone happy and to keep the dressing room harmony going. But there is no doubt with the quality of strikers the Blues have they will be an attacking force to reckon with.
