The third game-week of the English Premier League ignited more interest amongst worldwide fans as some fantastic football, combined with some well-taken goals, stole the attention of everyone. Liverpool, Chelsea, Wigan Athletic and Everton posted victories, while a couple of games ended in goal-less draws.
Liverpool vs Bolton Wanderers
Former Ajax man Luis Suarez continued to impress in the Red jersey, as he produced another performance which terrorized the defenders of Bolton. Though the Copa America winner failed to score a goal, his impact on the pitch was enough for Liverpool to secure an easy 3-1 win over the Wanderers.
New signing Jordan Henderson opened the scoring in the 15th minute, thus silencing his critics who said that the £20 million fee, which Liverpool paid for him, was too much. Martin Kelly suffered a blow at the hour-hour mark and was replaced by Martin Skrtel, with Slovakian asked to play in an unfamiliar right-back position.
The second half started with more attacking football by Liverpool. Skrtel first scored a headed goal off Charlie Adam’s corner, which were labeled as worth £10 million by Sir Alex Ferguson last season. Just a few minutes later, Adam scored a goal off his own foot to celebrate his first for Liverpool. That killed off the game before the 60th minute. Ivan Klasnic scored a consolation goal for Bolton in the final minute.
Chelsea vs Norwich City
Chelsea registered a 3-1 win over Norwich City, which looked an easy one but was not actually as the Blues were forced to wait till the final ten minutes for getting a decisive goal.
Both Torres and Drogba started for Chelsea, with new signing Juan Mata on the bench. With some attacking football by the London club, Bosingwa scored the first goal of the match in the 6th minute.
Grant Holt equalized for Norwich in the 63rd minute, after which the game looked to be heading towards a draw. But, Frank Lampard’s spot kick in the 82nd minute broke the deadlock and Chelsea were a step near victory. Juan Mata added a goal on his debut in injury time.
In the other games, Wigan Athletic defeated QPR by 2-0, thanks to a double brace from Di Santo. Blackburn were left disappointed against Everton, as the Merseysiders won the match 1-0, via a penalty late in injury time.
Swansea City drew 0-0 with Sunderland, adding to Steve Bruce’s worries, while Aston Villa were held at 0-0 by Wolves due to a tactical game played by Wolves manager Mick McCarthy.
