With a fresh football season right on the brim, this is just all trouble for Louisiana State University at the moment. LSU quarterback, Jordan Jefferson and his teammate Joshua Johns have been issued an arrest warrant Friday with charges of a second degree battery that left four people injured.
The fight had broken outside Shady’s bar on August 19 in the capital, Baton Rouge. Immediately the players were suspended indefinitely by the school. Nathan Fisher, their attorney and the team coach, Les Miles, have both been contacted and the issue is now pending to be cleared. The police have asked the players to turn themselves in.
“We will continue to cooperate with the authorities in an effort to find out exactly what took place during the incident. As sad as this incident is, it’s important that we learn from this and that we take away a valuable lesson. This has weighed on all of us. It’s time for us to come together as a team and focus on what we are here to do, Miles said.
A 19 year old woman called Victoria was the witness to the whole incident. She said that she saw many of the LSU players beat up the victim. She said that she also saw Jefferson kick the man in the face. Another witness, an employee of the bar, said that the players did not start the fight and it was hard to tell who was hitting whom once the brawl got out of control.
The door manager said that after some time through the fight, Jefferson pulled out. He looked grim after that point on.
Thought the victims were taken to the hospital, the incident has left them seriously injured; one with a fractured vertebrae.
LSU ranks in fourth position and they were to play against Oregon as the season opens September 3. Johns was a reserve but Jefferson was to play that match. Their places will be taken by Jarrett Lee, a sophomore in college and Zach Mettenberger who is a junior.
Even though LSU did not perform as well last season, with entry of new players into the team, they were being expected to do better this season as the state loves their football!
The LSU team has been going through a couple of setbacks this season. Last Thursday, the wide receiver Russell Shepard was suspended after he violated NCAA and school rules.
The ball is definitely not in their court for the time being!
