India got thrashed to one of their biggest defeat in terms of runs and the biggest against England after losing the second test match by 319 runs at Trent Bridge.

If Broad shinned in 1st innings for England, then Bresnan starred in 2nd innings. Interestingly not only with ball but also with bat as Broad scored superb attacking fifty and took 6 wickets in 1st innings and Bresnan scored 90 in 2nd innings and took 5 wickets in 2nd innings which is clearly a match winning performance.

England ended their 2nd innings for massive 544 runs in which more than 400 runs came in a single day. The manner in which English batsmen’s got runs will spur lot of questions on the minds of Indian team and fans. After fluent 73 from Prior, Bresnan continued his run hunt with Broad. Stuart Broad (44) was run out by a direct hit from Saha and on the next ball Praveen had Tim Bresnan (90) caught by Rahul Dravid.  Ishant Sharma got his 2nd wicket as Graeme Swann caught at mid-off. England set a mammoth 474 as target for India to chase in the 4th innings.

India began their chase poorly with Broad claiming the “rock wall” of India, Rahul Dravid just before Lunch. Shortly after lunch, Anderson bowled a jaffa to knockout the off-stump of VVS Laxman and Mukund terrible time at middle ended by a bouncer from Bresnan. Mukund fought his own battle as he managed to score just 3 runs from 41 balls and became Bresnan first victim of bouncers for the day. India’s nemesis back as both Raina and Yuvraj got rattled by sharp bouncer from Bresnan and Dhoni soon followed his young colleagues to leave India dearly hanging at 55/6.

Bresnan troubled both Raina and Yuvraj with bouncers after bouncer and finally their resistance came to an end as they simply don’t know how to tackle the bouncers. Bresnan dismissed Dhoni for duck in his first ball LBW after dismissing Yuvraj and Harbhajan managed to stay in the hattrick ball. On the other end, as many a time you have seen in 90’s, Sachin is battling alone even now. He was fluent in his foot work and playing his shorts where at other end players struggling to just stay in the crease.

With a superb drive, Sachin bought up his 60th test half century but made an error of judgement in picking Anderson in-swinger. Anderson now have claimed Sachin for 7th time in test cricket history and still has got chance to add more. After Sachin’s effort, Harbhajan fought hard but as always he can’t able to control his pull and became Bresnan fifth wicket. This is the first time Bresnan claimed five wickets in an innings.

Praveen Kumar got clean bowled by a yorker from Anderson which all of Indian bowlers forget to bowl for English tails. Broad fittingly claimed the last wicket of the match to get England inch closer for becoming World No.1 in test cricket. Stuart Broad has been adjudged as Man of the Match and rightly so for his splendid all-round display.

The third test starts at August 10 at Edgbaston but before that India will be playing a 2 day practice match starting from August 5th where Sehwag is expected to play.
