French legend and former galactico Zinedine Zidane has revealed that he will become the new director of football at Real Madrid from the next season. Zidane was working as a special advisor of president Florentino Perez. The 39 year old Zidane won the Champions League and one La Liga during his time at the Santiago Bernabeu. While commenting on his new role, Zizou said: “Mourinho influenced this decision, but also Florentino. We will see (what the new role entails), but I will begin from Monday until the end of the season.”
This season Zidane helped Madrid to sign the immensely talented French center back Raphael Varane from Lens. Madrid coach Mourinho will want to work closely with Zidane to bring more silverware at the Santiago Bernabeu. The experience and exceptional talent scouting abilities of the master Zidane will come very handy for the Los Blancos. Former Madrid director general Jorge Valdano was sacked last season and it was widely speculated that Zidane will step up to take the vacant position. The relationship between Zidane and Mourinho is good, so it is expected to be a change for the betterment of football at Real.
Zidane also commented on the new Brazilian wonder kid Neymar who is heavily linked to Real Madrid. He compared Neymar with fellow Brazilian Robinho who also came from Santos to play for Madrid. It is being speculated that Real could use Zidane to persuade Neymar, who is currently playing in Copa America, to play at their club. Real is facing tough fight for Neymar’s signature with fellow Spanish giants and rivals Barcelona and Chelsea are interested to buy the player. After years of mesmerizing football on the pitch we hope Zidane carries the good work off the pitch as a director of football.
