After splurging £50 million in the transfer market for the likes of David De Gea, Ashley Young and Phil Jones, Manchester United are now looking to further add to their squad by making a shock move for rival Arsenal’s Samir Nasri.
They might however, face some competition from another rival, Manchester City, who once again wants to flood their team with stars. Manchester City are on the verge of signing another Arsenal man, Gael Clichy at a region of £7 million.
Nasri has not ruled out a move to United. He said last month that, “Do I want to go to United? We should see if their interest is real and if it is concrete first,”
If he does make it through to United, he can expect some angry and hostile and maybe even violent reactions from the fans of the Gunners. Talks to sign a contract extension have fallen apart as Arsenal are hesitant to pay the wages that Nasri has been demanding.
In their talks, Arsenal have offered Nasri a five-year deal which will pay him wages of £90,000-a-week. TO tempt their man, United are ready to pay up to £110,000 weekly, which incidentally happens to be the salary he has been demanding. But cash rich City are ready to outweigh all offers with a staggering £180,000-a-week.
If this interest is indeed true, Arsenal will be put in a rock and a hard place, as Cesc Fabregas and Clichy also seem to be on their way out of the Emirates. It is also curious if Arsenal will indeed allow one of their star players to join a rival team.
After flirting with the possibilities of signing Luka Modric of Tottenham and Wesley Sneijder of Inter, Manchester United are now looking to Nasri to fill in the formidable shoes of Paul Scholes, who retired after the last season.
