In what would leave some of the Manchester United fans disappointed, Ferguson has downplayed that United are going to make a record deal for Inter’s star midfielder Wesley Sneijder. With other stars like Samir Nasri and Luka Modric likely to join Manchester City and Chelsea respectively, United were thought to be on hot pursuit of the Dutch playmaker to replace the legacy of the recently retired Paul Scholes.
But Ferguson, who has already spent around 50 million pounds in the transfer window, doesn’t want to splash more money on another star. The newly signed Phil Jones can also operate in the midfield while Tom Cleverly will be expected to fill in the big shoes after an impressive season at Wigan on loan. Anderson, who was once claimed to be better than Arsenal’s Fabregas, will finally get an extended run in the middle of the park and will be eager to fulfill his potential.
Ferguson has admitted that he is a bit short on options in the midfield while the same cannot be said about his attacking options. Ferguson has the luxury of selecting between Dimitar Berbatov and Javier Hernandez to support Wayne Rooney while Macheda and Bebe will be eager to stamp their authority on the English Premiership this season. Owen has signed an year’s extension at Old Trafford and his experience will be handy and United’s fans will not forget the injury time winner he scored at Manchester City a couple of seasons ago.
With a couple of new signings in Ashley Young and talented goalkeeper David de Gea, Ferguson’s team once again looks the favourites to go on and win a record 20th League title.
