The monetary issues are always the reason, for any split-up, NBA is no big exception. The lockout of the NBA began a couple of days ago, with the owners’ claiming over the profit issues. The owners seek a profit about ten times as the current one, with the players-salary at a stake. The fix now is, to seek out this demand on profits, without trading-off on the players’ salaries.
The owners always have an issue; it became bigger especially after the sudden influx of new owners. The new ones are more prudent and are aiming for making the profits very profound on a long run basis. The new owners are different from the old ones, which is more of a family-soapy-affair. The old tradition of propriety was a close-knit network, but the new ones have a backup of investors along with.
Though the profit-loss figures are highly confidential and the owners are also hesitant in divulging them, it is assumed that they have lost about 300 million USD last season!
Here the physics and the philosophy fails, “If one door closes, another door will open”, the simultaneous cessation of the country’s two big-games has extinguished the fans’ spirit. The four-month lockout of the NFL players is different from the case of NBA’ lockout, since 1998 the owners decided to lockout the NBA players and this dead-end was imminent and inevitable. NFL is debating on how to split-up the huge pile of growing inflow of money, while NBA is all about striking a balance between the players’-salary and the owners’-profits. In NFL, the players live like a King and retire like a whelp, while in NBA the post-retirement life of the players are healthier, even though the active part of their life is not that luxurious.
The financial structure of NBA and NFL are completely different, and this will not only put off the fans’ spirits on the game, but also enrage them on the players, who are living their dreams.
Longer NBA lockouts certainly ruin the fan-base and the TV ratings, leading to an epic-recession in the seasons’ downfall since 1998. It is an irony that the cases at the court are similar; the sports lawyers decided that the decisions would be transferrable, even though the geneses of the cases are remotely related.
Today, the NBA had a talk of ending this lockout as soon as possible in order to avoid a “Checkmate!”
