The ‘radar’ never fails, at last Rafa’s Achilles’ heel was found. Years ago, Federer found his nemesis, the Spanish Spartan, Nadal – to the Swiss, came the Spaniard, and to the Spaniard came the Serb. The No. 1 title goes to a new head, Novak Djokovic. Watching these Grand Slams makes me feel that these fights are no different from the Great Wars of the past, except for the loss of lives and blood.
The fans are at a poor state, a very patriotic, chauvinistic fan of Nadal may continue to love and hail and yell for the Spaniard, but that set, which used to like the two ‘S’ (Swiss and Spain) players, has broadened its gamut with another ‘S’ (Swiss, Spain and Serbia).
It took seven years to replace the Roger-Rafa realm in the tennis network. The Serb after the victory, has sent high amplitude of shockwaves, and created a short circuit in the tennis circuit. This will be the 50th victory for Novak of the 51 matches played this year (one losing to Roger Federer at the French Open). What can be wilder than Nadal’s ‘Hee, Hoo, Yeeh, Huuu’ amid the game?
Federer’s backhand shot, and this time for a change, Novak’s harder, yet nonchalant hit!
For those who don’t like Nadal because, he dethroned Federer, now they have got a new reason for liking Novak, the new World No. 1. Indeed Novak’s deportment is more inspiring than Federer’s for the fact that he had destroyed the King of Clay (Nadal), at his own castle twice. The last few seasons of Grand Slams were droughty for Djokovic, a null-win series. This ceased with Novak giving Nadal an impingement of failure! Nadal got a taste of “What losing is all about?”
It is not the new Novak or the old Nadal, it is just the concept of ‘history repeating itself’.
Welcome to the World of “ World No. 1” Novak.
