This week has been all adds for Liverpool. As other clubs are doing their business of taking in players and selling some off, Liverpool too made a few changes to their team. They signed 16-year-old Stewart Downing and 31-year-old Alexander Doni as a backup.
Stewart Downing was part of Middlesbrough for eight years and then he joined Aston Villa team in 2009. Back then, he was bought was £10 million however it is not yet disclosed of how much Liverpool paid to Aston Villa for the player this time. This deal was been going on for a few weeks now but the final figures for the player were recently settled this week.
There were talks about Liverpool offering £15 million for the English winger however the deal may have ended with a final of £20 million. The figures have not been released. Downing expressed his contentment on the official website of Liverpool saying he was happy to be with the Red’s now.
“It’s been a long time coming and I’ve had to wait a few weeks, but I’m really pleased to be here” said Downing.
On the other hand, Alexander Doni from Roma is the backup for Pepe Reina. Even this deal has no official figures yet disclosed by either of the clubs nor has the contractual details. In the last season, Alexander Doni had made 19 appearances for Roma.
Doni played as a goalkeeper with Aston for about six seasons and has 10 caps for Brazil. The team owner and the director both agree that they have recruited a very experienced player and they were happy with the deal and looking forward to a great season. They said that he had the expertise and was part of a grand club for so many years. He, as a player has evolved and showed some great performances under great pressure with dedication and hard work and he will continue to perform them for Liverpool as well. His last season with Roma has been outstanding.
Along with Stewart and Doni, Jordan Henderson from Sunderland and Charlie Adam from Blackpool have also joined Liverpool.
With multiple new recruits and additions to the team, Liverpool is in the same pace as all the other teams who are making adjustments with the adding and selling off of players. This season ought to be more promising and exciting for the fans.
