Out of favour Liverpool midfielder has stated that he would continue his spell at Liverpool even though his first season was somewhat a disaster. The 29 year old has had a serious talk with Manager Kenny Dalglish and has told him that he would stay on and fight for his place in the team.
Earlier reports hinted that Joey might be on his way out of Anfield, with Tottenham in the lead to snap him up. But as no solid interest has arisen from any club for the former English international, Cole has no option but to stay on with the Reds.
The Liverpool hierarchy were not really keen on holding on to him as his hefty wages have become somewhat a burden for the club, given Cole’s dip in form and fitness. Kenny and Cole have both come to an agreement that Cole still has the class to perform at the highest level.
His performances in the pre-season friendlies have been impressive and assistant manager Steve Clarke has praised him for that.
“At the end of last season he was not getting in the team because the team was playing well,” explained Clarke. “But he has trained hard and gone away and had a good summer. Joe Cole is a top international player. He has got a big contribution to make to the future.
The arrivals of Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam and Stewart Downing will make it only harder for Cole to find a place in the first team.
With Liverpool having been quite active in the incoming section of the transfers, they will now focus on the outgoing players. Milan Jovanovic, Christian Poulsen, Alberto Aquilani, Maxi Rodriguez, David N’Gog and Emiliano Insua are all supposedly considered to be dead weight in the team and will be shipped out.
