It must be every Indian football fan’s dream to see India play in the World Cup. I personally want to see India compete amongst the best in the world at the grandest stage of them all, the World Cup, at least once in my lifetime and would go to see them play in any corner of the world. Sometimes the dream doesn’t look too far-fetched at all!
True, there are many fans that follow Indian football regularly. But certainly I’ve never seen anyone following the Indian domestic league quite as regularly. But when the national team plays, we sure fill up the Ambedkar Stadium in Delhi to the best that we can.
Yes, we may support Manchester United and not Mahindra United, but when India plays, we as the crowd do become their 12th man.
Just imagine how exciting it would be. We’d be discussing India’s group games in the World Cup and not some random national team’s. We’d be finally supporting and rooting for a team we do give a damn about. We’d be buying Indian team’s merchandise, with Chhetri and his number 9 printed on the back. Our own team would be part of footballing debates, and being discussed on shows like The Monday Night Verdict.
