The Areva Diamond League that is being held in Paris glittered on Friday evening as Bolt seized triumph despite being caught with a bad flu.
The 200 metres run had Bolt finishing first where the home runner, France’s Christophe Lemaitre came second place with a time of 20.21 seconds. Bolt’s flashed into the finish line with a time record of 20.03 seconds. His time back in 2009 was 19.19 seconds at the World Championships in Berlin, however his timing on Friday was good enough to declare him the winner.
Usain Bolt was considering withdrawing from the run on Thursday, as he was struck with flu however he chose to run and defeated all odds against him.
There was reportedly a fault of the timing and the run was delayed for about 15 minutes. Bolt said that the delay “was a little bit too long” and it started to get cold as the wind picked up. However he managed to keep himself together and finished grand.
As the race started, Bolt zoomed to make a quick start leaving behind Lemaitre who had to chase the World Champion with much difficulty. The win however was quite evident as Bolt crossed the finish line with much ease, especially the last 50 metres.
“Overall it was an OK race,” Bolt said. “I ran the first part very hard. Then I just came into the straight, made sure I was leading, and I kind of backed off a little bit.” After the race, he was massaged by his physiotherapist during which he sent out a couple text messages.
Usain Bolt already has the World and Olympic Tittles to his name and will defend them in next month’s championships in Daegu, South Korea.
The men’s had two French winners. One was Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad for 3000 metre race and Renaud Lavillenie in pole-vault.
There was a new record set in the 400 meter hurdles by Czech Zuzana Hejnova who set a national record with a time of 53.29 seconds.
The 800 metre women’s race had the South African Caster Semenya who left her rivals behind and managed to win first place with a time of 00.18 seconds. She was upset about her timing but said “I cannot worry about the time, the most important thing about Daegu is to win, getting back to the podium.” Before Daegu however, she will compete in the World University Games to be held in China.
