At Silverstone, about two weeks ago Fernando Alonso in a red Ferrari won an emphatic race, bringing the dominance of the Red Bulls to a close. This win, in ten races, was the first win for Fernando and Ferrari this season. This goes to show how the Red Bulls have dominated the first half of the season.
This win showed the amount of effort and the ‘never-die’ spirit of the Ferrari engineers who have been developing their car. Since the season began, they were trying their level best to match the performance of that of Red Bull cars. They have finally seemed to catch up. We got a faint indication of the Ferrari catching up to the Red Bulls during the qualifying itself when Fernando qualified very close to the time set by the leading Red Bull cars.
McLaren on the other hand, are still looking way off target and it has to be said that they had their share of bad luck also in the past few races. Their cars have not performed as per the expectations. Lewis and Jenson have tried to drive hard and fast but ending up rather disappointed after the race.
Current leader and the defending driver’s champion, Sebastian Vettel and his Red Bull team will be keen to come back to their winning ways in Vettel’s home GP to be held this weekend at Germany’s famous Nurburgring circuit. Ferrari has stated that they will not get carried by their first win and will try to continue putting in more effort to further enhance the car. Vettel on the same note had urged to his team mates and engineers to focus on the job and to come out with a faster car.
Vettel is confident that he will be the best bet for a race win this weekend with the support of the home crowd. Even for the legendary race driver, Michael Schumacher currently driving for Mercedes GP, it will be his home race. He has not been able to make his mark this season but seems upbeat about his home GP in Germany.
It will be a close contest, to say the least as Ferrari have finally got a car to match the Red Bulls and as McLaren will try to do things right this weekend. We have to wait and see how the teams perform in the practice sessions on Friday. It will give us the idea about how the teams have prepared for the race this weekend.
