Dhoni And Co. Look To Finish Series With A Win

Bad weather and bad light robbed India of an opportunity to wrap up the series in Barbados but Dhoni would be proud of his bowlers, especially Ishant for putting up a brilliant performance and come within striking distance of victory. But the same cannot be said of his batsmen who have failed to put on 300 in the series. If Dravid was immaculate in the first test, it was Laxman’s heroics in both the innings at Barbados that saved India the blushes. Barring Raina, the rest of the batsmen haven’t got a reasonable score in the series while Mukund struggled on his way to 48 in the second innings at Barbados.

The hosts haven’t got a different story to tell! While Rampaul and Bishoo have not let Indian batsmen dictate terms, Edwards has been threatening in spells. But it is the batsmen that haven’t been doing the job. Barath has got a couple of starts while Bravo and Samuels have been flamboyant in their own way. Sarwan is facing a drought of runs and has been dropped for Kieran Powell while Chanderpaul no longer is the superhuman he was four years ago. Carlton Baugh played a match saving knock at Barbados and the hosts will need the batting to click if they are to force a result at Dominica.

The Windsor Park at Dominica will be playing host to its first ever Test match and the curator has promised carry and bounce on the track. The weather forecast isn’t as promising though with rains forecasted on each of the five days of the Test.

Kohli and Vijay have not made as many runs as they would have liked to cost them a place for the England series and they might find themselves on the bench here with Parthiv and Badrinath waiting on the sidelines. Although Mithun didn’t do too badly at Barbados, Dhoni might be tempted to play the spinner in Mishra.

Probable Squads:

India: Abhinav Mukund, Parthiv Patel, Rahul Dravid, V.V.S Laxman, Subramanian Badrinath, Suresh Raina, M S Dhoni (Captain & Wicket Keeper), Harbhajan Singh, Praveen Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Abhimanyu Mithun, Amit Mishra.

West Indies: Adrian Barath, Lendl Simmons, Kieran Powell, Darren Bravo, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Marlon Samuels, Carlton Baugh (Wicket Keeper), Darren Sammy (Captain), Ravi Rampaul, Fidel Edwards, Devender Bishoo.
