Corinthians have made an £40 million offer for Man City’s captain and last season’s top scorer Carlos Tevez. Their previous bid of £35 million was rejected by Manchester City but that hasn’t stopped the Brazilian club to lure the want away striker from the Etihad Stadium and now they have increased their bid by £5 million. The renewed offer by Corinthians will be funded by a television rights deal worth multi millions.
Tevez who is currently with the Argentina national side, already stated that he wants to leave Man City because he is home sick and wants to spend more time with his family. He also said that he has no intentions to go back to his current club after the Copa America finishes.. It was said that Juventus made and £45 million approach to sign Tevez but as the reports were dismissed Corinthians renewed their interest in signing Tevez. Tevez also stated that if he moves to Brazil he will only play for Corinthians, as because he was a former player there and enjoyed a very successful stint with them.
City though are under no pressure to sell Tevez cheaply because his current contract runs upto 2015. City owner Sheikh Mansour and their Chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak said that they are not intending to change the valuation of Tevez which they have set to £50 million.
Losing Tevez will be a huge loss for City. He scored 52 goals in 86 appearances for them, not only that he is a tireless worker and also makes numerous assists as well. A player like Tevez will be hard to replace but City have identified Atletico Madrid’s forward and Tevez’s countryman Sergio Aguero as his best replacement. Aguero is also a similar kind of player and the change will be like for like. Aguero is also unsettled at Atlectico and he also wants to leave his current club. City are likely to table a £40 million bid for Aguero in the next few days which will trigger a release clause in his contract.
Tevez has been a great servant for both the Manchester clubs during his time at England and losing him will not only be a blow to City but also to the English Premier League.
